Don’t think for a minute that I’ve got no smart remarks to make on Cuil.com! I’ve tried to hold back since this morning but now that I have a few minutes of free time, I’ve decided to take Cuil for a spin. I do like their simplicity (Just Google in a different color), and I also like the profiles behind the development of Cuil as a product - google engineer(s) I believe. So far so good.

Since I’m in the online shopping space, I decided to search on “hot product deals.” Of course, my expectations are modest and typically low on sites that just launched. Especially ones touting new technology on search capabilities. So let’s see what I discovered.

On the search for “hot product deals”,

Quil search

Quil.com returned to me almost 30,000 results. Not bad for a new engine looking crawling the web.

Quil SERPS

But what I discovered next as I was looking for my hot product deals almost gave me fall off my chair - and I’m not even drinking! This was all I got!?!?!! Out of over 29,000 results, Cuil.com showed me 6 and there wasn’t even any pagination! This was it. 6 RESULTS! Now, return 20,000 results to me and I’m happy. Give me 2,000 will make me wonder. 6 is just unacceptable - for a team of that caliber.

Quil products not so hot

I could be missing something but I’m pretty sure this is what I saw. Someone tell me if I’m going crazy. And I’d really prefer to be called “crazy” than to think Cuil.com is really not as good as promised.
