Google Results Showing 3rd Description Line
I was doing some research online for prom-related terms and noticed something out of place in Google's results. Maybe this has happened before or maybe this is even something that's old and I've just been blind to. Check this out. A search for perfect prom dress for serena returns listings with 3 line descriptions. I'm used to seeing 2 lines of text - but the 3rd line? Here's another example of a military search term that returned [+]“Did You Mean” Echo or Eco Trimmer?
Read a very interesting post this morning about Google's "Did You Mean" Feature article at SERoundTable.com. Of course, the interesting part is not me reading a post from Barry's blog, I probably spend too much time reading the blog to keep up with the good, bad and ugly. Ok - so a friend of mine forwarded me an article that had, what I thought was a very catchy title "Why Google Must Die" and 30 seconds into the article, I have to say I'm not surprised at John's column on Google and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). The field of SEO, as we know it, has come full circle in my opinion - as far as Google is concerned. Just when you think that SEO is becoming more understandable and make sense, freaking Google throws a curveball at you!! I came across a very good survey on SERoundTable.com about penalties and SEOs. Those two words "Penalty" and "SEO" typically send shivers down every internet marketers' spine - well most. If you work for a large corporation and do their SEO work or work with people from the Search department, try sending them an email with the tagline "I think Google has penalized us!" - and see what reaction you get. As much money as Google has invested in their search technology and AI, there are still some simpler things that the mighty search engine has problems with. This URL does exist and it's actually a filter type result from smarter.com. But checking to see if Google has indexed that page, brings up an error. See picture below. I just noticed this today when I was toying around with Google's free keyword tool. This could have been a few days old already - but it's pretty cool that Adwords is providing some tangible numbers under the "Approx Search Volume" and "Approx Avg Search Volume" columns. This will definitely help webmasters in their keyword research, especially those who are either just starting out or cannot afford other 3rd party tools. Hopefully sites and companies alike [+]
