Cuil.com Serving Up Limited Results
Written by derek chew in Monday, July 28th 2008
Don't think for a minute that I've got no smart remarks to make on Cuil.com! I've tried to hold back since this morning but now that I have a few minutes of free time, I've decided to take Cuil for a spin. I do like their simplicity (Just Google in a different color), and I also like the profiles behind the development of Cuil as a product - google engineer(s) I believe. So far so [+]
Google Is Confused About Indexing
Written by derek chew in Friday, July 11th 2008
As much money as Google has invested in their search technology and AI, there are still some simpler things that the mighty search engine has problems with.
This URL does exist and it's actually a filter type result from smarter.com. But checking to see if Google has indexed that page, brings up an error. See picture below.
However, Yahoo does a slightly better job at indexing that product page. Of course if you notice the title in [+]
Google Keyword Tool Shows More Data
Written by derek chew in Thursday, July 10th 2008
I just noticed this today when I was toying around with Google's free keyword tool. This could have been a few days old already - but it's pretty cool that Adwords is providing some tangible numbers under the "Approx Search Volume" and "Approx Avg Search Volume" columns.
This will definitely help webmasters in their keyword research, especially those who are either just starting out or cannot afford other 3rd party tools. Hopefully sites and companies alike [+]
Yahoo SERPs Displays LinkedIn Content
Written by derek chew in Monday, July 7th 2008
Just noticed this today while goofing around with Yahoo to search for my own name. It looks like Yahoo! is beginning to open up to more content instead of relying on its own strength. A very good move on their part.
Did another search for my buddy Todd Malicoat (Stuntdubl.com) and also got his Linkedin profile.
If you click to permanently store that result, then you'll have personalized results the next time you search for Todd Malicoat [+]
Google Bolding Letters Not in Search Query
Written by derek chew in Monday, June 30th 2008
DO NO EVIL!
So proclaims Google in all its glory. But I noticed some strange behavior in the SERPs while doing a search on seemingly a very innocent product Logitech Z Cinema 2.1 - and the bolded terms caught my attention.
What you will see is that the number "6" is bolded in the URLs of the SERPs of my query. I tried looking and coming up with every damn SEO theory and search reasons why [+]
Yahoo! Just Doesn’t Get It
Written by derek chew in Wednesday, June 11th 2008
The office is buzzing with the NBA finals - I decided to check back on my favorite (decreasing) sports site at Sports.Yahoo.com for the latest news. The other day, a co-worker told me he managed to sell 2 of his tickets for over $1,000 each. As if that's not enough, I heard on the radio that a court-side ticket was selling for $112,000! Sounds like a big money making opportunity to me for contextual advertisers [+]More From Choose a category:
