Yahoo Removing Paid Inclusion - Coming Clean
Written by derek chew in Friday, October 16th 2009
For many years, even during the time I was at Yahoo! doing SEO, their Paid Inclusion offering never made sense to me. This hybrid of organic search+paid search+directory-like approach has always ruffled feathers among search practitioners. Of course, depending on what department paid inclusion falls under, it could be a true blessing or a devil's curse.
I'm just happy, if this is true, that websites will now have an even opportunity to rank in organic search [+]
FUD Marketing
Written by derek chew in Tuesday, September 22nd 2009
It's been a while since I last posted anything - to be exact since June 3rd 2009! But let's not dwell on the absence of my posts, but rather what I'm about to write about. FUD Marketing. So what's FUD? Do you FUD someone, or tell someone to FUD-off, or is it some sick version of F*** You D***head?

Senket, Go and My Friend Geoff
Written by derek chew in Thursday, April 9th 2009
Let me start by saying that I have absolutely NO IDEA what the heck Senket is. And if you have no clue what Senket is either and wonder if it's the name of a newly discovered creature (sounds like a cat huh?), the name of a lost tribe, or my childhood nickname - just stop!! It's probably nothing you can associate with, neither can I. But it's something you'll want to learn more about.
Until my [+]
“Did You Mean” Echo or Eco Trimmer?
Written by derek chew in Wednesday, February 4th 2009
Read a very interesting post this morning about Google's "Did You Mean" Feature article at SERoundTable.com. Of course, the interesting part is not me reading a post from Barry's blog, I probably spend too much time reading the blog to keep up with the good, bad and ugly. When I read discussions like these, my mind seem to start wandering and coming up with strange ideas, theories, whatever you call them - but definitely not [+]
MSN Allows Deceptive Marketing Ads
Written by derek chew in Monday, January 26th 2009
For years, online marketers have exploited paid ad programs like Google's Adwords and Yahoo's Search Marketing to deceive uninformed users to click through paid listings. Shady marketers abuse the loopholes and rely heavily on unsuspecting users as their main source of revenue.
If you don't know what these paid ads look like, here are examples from Google and Yahoo:
Google Adwords
Yahoo Search Marketing
The examples I show above are legit well-known brands that are using these paid ads [+]
Seven Deadly SEO Sins
Written by derek chew in Friday, January 9th 2009
After reading a post over at shoemoney about deadly sins of money-seekers, which was in turn inspired by the seven deadly sins series from the History channel. I decided to take some time today, sit down and come up with a list of seven things I consider to be the deadly sins in our world of SEO.
1. Over Optimization
Trying to insert too many keywords into one page because someone else is doing it and ranking? [+]
Search Strategy for 2009
Written by derek chew in Thursday, December 18th 2008
Another year is coming near the end and I would like to take this time to give a shout-out to blogs and forums like SERoundTable, SearchEngineLand, and SEOMoz's blog for keeping everyone in the search space up-to-date with what's going on with search. But...did anything really change over the past year?
Just like last year and the year before and the year before, the consistent topics that come up talks about content, link, spam, more content, [+]
John C. Dvorak vs. SEO
Written by derek chew in Thursday, November 20th 2008
Ok - so a friend of mine forwarded me an article that had, what I thought was a very catchy title "Why Google Must Die" and 30 seconds into the article, I have to say I'm not surprised at John's column on Google and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
This article is one of the worse articles I've ever come across on a publication, besides the other bullshit article about investing advice from Robert Freeland over at [+]
Christmas Sale! Cheap Women and Eternal Life.
Written by derek chew in Friday, November 14th 2008
For those who are in online marketing, specifically SEM, face the challenge of delivery targeted ads to the right audience at the right time for the right product. All this in hopes of driving traffic and converting that user for revenue of some sort. But for some companies, this holiday season calls for a higher cause.
Many online shopping sites appear to be promoting services and products of a different nature. Have our morals as a [+]More From Choose a category:
