For a time, I gave myself a simple daily goal: meet or contact one person. When I had a meeting, I rewarded myself with a donut. It was a small way to recognise the part of the work I could control.
Not every conversation produced an immediate result. Each one gave me a chance to listen, answer a question or find a question I needed to investigate. I learn by experience, so those meetings helped me build knowledge as well as relationships.
The lesson for me was to keep showing up and notice the progress that happens before a result is visible.
